What is Myofascial Release Therapy?
Myofascial release therapy is a hands-on treatment that uses gentle pressure, stretching, and kneading to help relieve muscle pain and improve range of motion:
A type of soft tissue therapy that focuses on the fascia, the connective tissue that surrounds muscles, nerves, blood vessels, and bones.
How it works
A therapist applies pressure to locate trigger points, or knots, in the fascia. Then, they use gentle, sustained pressure and stretching to loosen the muscles and joints.
What it can help with
Myofascial release therapy can help with a variety of conditions, including back pain, headaches, migraines, carpal tunnel syndrome, and more.
Benefits
In addition to reducing pain, myofascial release therapy can increase blood flow, improve circulation, and help the body recover naturally.
How to perform self-massage
You can try self-massage to relieve symptoms at home. Apply gentle pressure to areas that feel tight or uncomfortable. If you feel tenderness, you've likely found the source of your stiffness.
